HUPFUFF Matthias

German  publisher  (active in Strasbourg  from 1497 to 1529)

Scarce, if not almost nonexistent, are the news about Matthias Hupfuff’s life, so we ignore the year of his birth or the state of his parents. We can assume that his place of birth being Strasbourg after his surname, one of the most common in the town.
For more than thirty years he directed one of the most prestigious printshop between the 15th and 16th centuries. At his workshop he edited many books, many of them illustrated by the woodcuts produced by the most prestigious German engravers of the time.
