FARINATI Orazio

(Verona ca. 1559 – ca.1616)

Venetian painter and engraver, first-born son of Paolo Farinati and Benassuta di Angelo Volpin. He was the only one of three brothers to follow with determination the footsteps of his father Paolo, a painter and engraver, and to continue his workshop activity.
His artistic training developed in complete dependence on his father, imitating his style without achieving the same greatness and originality.  Although almost all are lost, the frescoes of the Venetian noble residences belonged to him: Palazzo Giusti, Palazzo Maniscalchi, Villa Giuliari Erbici.
With his father he collaborated to altarpieces and always from his father he derived the subject of many paintings, all sacred scenes. After his father ‘s death, he acquired a certain degree of autonomy both in painting and in engraving.
The graphic production of the two Farinati (Paolo and Orazio) brings together fewer than two dozen of engravings, all marked with a snail, symbol of their workshop
