NOVELLI Francesco

(Venice 1767 – 1836)

Venetian painter and engraver, he was learner of his father, Pietro Antonio, who was a painter and etcher. He worked in Venice and Rome and his engravings were influenced by Dominique-Vivant Denon, a French painter and engraver, active in the lagoon town towards the end of the 18th century.
His most significant work was the reproduction of the forty prints of Rembrandt included in the collection of the family of Anton Maria Zanetti. In his prints there is a linear slit that is affected by the taste of neoclassicism. Skill translator, he also reproduced works by Della Bella, Callot and Denon.
